How To Read A Certificate Of Analysis

A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is an important document about the contents and quality of a hemp product. It shows proof that each product has been lab tested for purity and potency. Here are some key things to look for when reading a COA.

  1. Third-party testing: The lab performing the test should be a third-party to ensure unbiased results.
  1. Cannabinoid profile: The COA should provide a breakdown of the cannabinoids in the product. This will include the percentage of CBD, THC, and other minor cannabinoids. Make sure they match the label on the product, and that the THC content is below the legal limit of 0.3%.
  1. Pesticide and heavy metal testing: The COA should include a section on pesticide and heavy metal testing. Make sure that the product has been tested for these contaminants, and that the levels are below the legal limit or undetectable.
  1. Microbial testing: The COA should also include information on microbial testing. This will tell you if the product contains any harmful bacteria or fungi.
  1. Date of testing: Cannabinoids can degrade over time, so you will want to make sure the product was tested recently.
  1. Terpene profile: Terpenes are aromatic compounds that give hemp distinctive smells and tastes. They can also influence the overall effect. The COA should provide a breakdown of the terpenes present in the product.
